Calling all German Type 143 Albatros-class & 143A Gepard-class fast attack craft fans

Post by Jimmy Conway »

The Type 143A Gepard class is Germany's last class of missile bearing fast attack craft (Schnellboot in German) and the only one still in service with the German Navy since 1990.

It is an evolution of the Type 143 Albatros class. It is planned that Gepard class vessels will gradually be supplemented by Braunschweig class corvettes from 2008 on and to be replaced by a new class of corvettes around 2015.

The Type 143 Albatros class was a German class of missile bearing Fast Attack Craft. Each vessel were named after a bird of prey.

S61S65 were part of the 2. Schnellbootgeschwader (Fast attack craft squadron), and S66S70 belonged to the 7. Schnellbootgeschwader. Both squadrons were based in Warnemnde.

Most of ships still sold to Tunisia.

Both class were released by Revell in kits 1/144, with nice details.
Gepard is more common but Albatros is today very rare in the market, very difficulty to find:

Wish they'd re-release the Albatross. They're nice kits.
Any ship larger than a Destroyer is a waste of metal.
