WWI paints and wooden decks?

Can anyone recommend a manufacturer of buff paint used on pre WWI U.S. superstructures?

Also, now that I can't get Floquil stains anymore, can anyone recommend paints or methods for simulating wood decks?

Hi there, if it's a paint for anything Naval for any era then it's off to White Ensign Models - http://www.whiteensignmodels.com

They do a range of enamels which, to the best of my knowledge, are the most accurate on the market. In terms of advice for achieving an accurate or realistic finish email John Snyder at White Ensign, there's a man that knows his stuff!

Hi Grendl,

I'm in LA as well. If you need Floquil, you could also check with Brookhurst Hobbies over in Garden Grove. I havn't checked their selection in the last couple of years though. I have heard great things about the White Ensign colors and need to give 'em a try sometime. I wonder how they brush on? I've used Floquils off and on for 20 years for airbrushing and rarely for brushpainting.

It's a pity that RPM [Testor's parent] bought them out. They've become difficult to find since. They also eliminated their marine color series.

If you like to brush paint, I suugest you try Polyscale acrylic UP Armor yellow. This color is slightly warmer than Floquil Depot Buff.

I found that Floquil paint is quite difficult to brush on, it seems to dry too fast and the solvent is pretty strong.
