USN Destroyer green

I have a USS Bainbridge that I am going to build and want to do a USN destroyer that was stationed in the Philippines in the early 1900's. I have heard they were painted green and it has been described to me as "the green in a 7-UP soft drink bottle". Any ideas of a good color match in the Tamiya, model master or vallejo range of paints??

Also, ideas on the deck color if the ship was green on verticle surfaces.

I have just found your post, so this may be too late help you. bonmaquettiste had a similer post in Nov, 09, re. SpanAm War dark green for torpedo boats(TB's). I am building a Span-Am torpedo boat in 1/24 scale. References I have found described some TB's as being painted bottle green. Another reference, pre-SpanAm War, describing the future role of TB's, included a suggested color of "black-green". The author even described the colors used to make black-green: Black, yellow and white. That is what I used as a starting point. I experimented with an online color pallete and came up with the following results: Using Rustoleum satin Hunter Green and a .5oz empty paint bottle, I made up a mix consisting of 75% hunter green, 25% black and 2 drops of yellow. This could be similer to the color you are looking for. If you have an antique store near you see if you can find an old dark green beer or wine bottle. This is what I think bottle-green may refer to. If you can find a bottle you may have a good starting point. Also look for old colorized post cards, the colors used in the colorization process may come close to actual color.

Thanks Jim, it is not to late, I have been doing a few other things before I broke this kit out to finish.
Your tips in color help, I will look for an old 7-up bottle and mix to that. Any idea of the deck color? Was it also green, I know they were steel so they had to be painted.

Dan, I have no idea what the deck color was. I decided to paint the entire TB Black-Green, using up and down shading to emphasize various deck structures and equipment. To help break up the monotony of all one color, I plan to weather the boat moderately. Since the boat was also all steel there will probably be more than a few rust stains.
