Hello everyone!
I have a few questions regarding this submarine model that I obtained from a friend. My friend's Dad was in the Navy and died recently and left all his Navy stuff to his son. Well my friend told me to take what I wanted for yourself because he was giving the rest away to charity.
Well I took the this submarine model because it looked pretty cool. Its a model of the USS Stonewall Jackson about 26" to 27" in length. It has a plastic case around it mounted on a wooden board.
From what he told me he said he built it himself but I don't know if you had a modeling kit or bought one and put it together. Another thing I have no idea if he just bought it from a dealer.
I'm just trying to find out the value of this thing. Can anybody help me out if you might know a general value or someone I can talk to that can tell me?

It may be a scratch built kit. The sail doesn't look right, to me. The sail shouldn't be so tall and it should extend further towards the stern.

so is the tail more at an angle towards the stern then instead of straight up and down. One thing I had to really shrink this picture. when i get off work i'll post some more pictures of it.
I have another question. Where would I go and who would I talk to so I can actually find out if its from a kit or not?

Re: USS STONEWALL JACKSON MODEL
Now that I've seen the the better photos of it (and shots without the glass case would be better) I take back my comment about the sail (aka: conning tower). It looks more proportional in these better photos.
How long is the model, in inches? If it's 23-24 inches long it may be from the Revell 1/200 scale USS Andrew Jackson kit with the cutaway option showing the insides. This kit could be made with a solid hull (no insides showing).
Also, is it heavy, or rather light weight? If it's heavy (heavier than what you'd expect just the wooden base and case to weigh) then it might be a solid resin kit, and I'm not aware of a company that makes a resin kit that size of that clase of sub.

Re: USS STONEWALL JACKSON MODEL
If it's from the 1/200 kit, then it's at least not out-of-the box - compare with this build of the kit:
http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... index.html
The tail planes and propeller are different, and it looks like the top of the sail is flatter than in the kit.

I really appreciate your info on this. I will take pictures of it without the casing tonight when I get back to work. I measured the Sub and it came to about 26 inches long. I will check to see if it is cutaway but its not that heavy so I'm assuming its just a solid piece. I will definitely get back to you with the pictures.
Thanks for all your help on this once again!!

Re: USS STONEWALL JACKSON MODEL
I was a Poseidon C-3 Missile Technician stationed on board USS Stonewall Jackson SSBN 634 from 1973 - 1977. The model looks excellent. Unfortunately I do not know what it is worth. Since the ship has been decommissioned, someone who was on board may be interested. What is the model made of?
