Painting of HMS Rodney

I posted pictures of the 1/350 scale model Yamato I finished earlier this year for you all to look at and thanks to all who e-mailed me with nice comments. As I said in the posting of the Yamato I had been away from modelling for about 15yrs and the Yamato was my first model for all that time. I have bought a few more 1/350 models since then and I am now nearly half way through the building of the Tirpitz also in 1/350 scale. All these 1/350 kits seem to come with a comprehensive list of paints and where to apply the paint.
Today however I took delivery of 2 off, Tamiya 1/700 kits. The King George v and the Rodney. I decided to start the Rodney along side the Tirpitz. Looking at the instructions however the paints listed are Admiralty paints for example Dark Blue (Admiralty code No. MS. 1)
Where do you find out what the equivalent Tamiya paint is? and where do you find out what is painted which colour on the ship?
Whithout refering to other models on this forum can somebody help out with this as this will only be my (2nd model Tirpitz) 3rd model in 15yrs.

Well, if you are firmly wed to Tamiya paints, you have have real problems coming up with equivalents. However, we have all the RN camouflage paints accurately matched and available in our Colourcoats enamels:

Its not that I had to have Tamiya paints, but I asummed that Tamiya would have the right paints for the model as it was a Tamiya kit. Anyway paints have just been ordered from WEM.

As a general rule paint manufacturers do not release paints for individual kits. Tamiya is different in having their own paint line, but really all that means is that they will at best give you mixing ratios for colors to use from their line. It's more in their interest to do that than to develop and distribute a new paint or two for a kit or to send customers to someone else's paint product

Tamiya is unique in having their own paint line, some manufacturers will give close matches to any given color with lists from a couple of different manufacturers, others will partner up with one manufacturer and give equivalents or mixing ratios with only that one manufacturer's paints, and not use the official paint name, making it a bit more difficult for the modeler to actually FIND the true color.

I've helped Dragon with a couple of kits and we're got them to at least put the official paint names on the instructions.
