I would if there were an injection kit of her, can't afford the resin one at this time.

I have the Samek 1/700 resin kit. A beautiful model with absolutely no imperfections or overpour on it; reminds me of a JAG kit in its quality.

I'd love to have a 1/350th scale kit of her in plastic as well -- I don't really care for any battleship enough to spend "resin money" on them. Maybe Trumpeter's pattern of making kits of the museum ships will continue and we'll see on of Texas (and New York) some day.

I wonder... has anyone been on the USS Texas "hard hat tour"?

I am considering it sometime this year. Would it be worth the trip?

I went on the regular tour on her back in 2001 or so. I don't know what's added to the Hard hat tour, but with the regular tour (which was lead by a guide) we went on the main deck, the level just underneath, some crew quaters and a head, to the engine room, steering aft, and several levels of the superstructure, but not to the bridge itself (closed for renovation)

Its worth it if you enjoy rusting passages, dark rooms and steep ladders.... I'm going to volunteer for the "First Volunteers of Texas" so I can help restore her to her former glory...

Perhaps you were around for the debate I started in which I posited it would be a worthy exercise to bring her back to life like SS Jeremiah O'Brien....

Hmmm, well, keep in mind I was there about 5 years ago, plenty of time for them to change what was open and what isn't.

I'm pretty sure we saw the two steering rooms and the boiler room (as well as the engine room). Can't say as I remember the drying rooms, dynamos, etc. The Pilot house was definately closed off to us.

It is a neat tour, regardless of hardhat or not. My wife and I did the hardhat Missouri tour and had a blast...

I actually can't remember. I know we talked about it at least but I don't remember if we saw it. We actually got a little bit of a "specialer" tour as the other parties had canceled and it was just the two of us and the guide and he figured we were fairly safe.

I think it would be worth it, seems they only do it once a month or so.
When I went it was cold, it was early in the morning, one guild but she was old and stayed on deck, it was a trip walking around the ship with no one around, Ghost ship

I am currently scratchbuilding a 1/96 scale remote control USS Texas BB-35 I got tired of waiting for a decent kit to come out. I will be posting pictures of it as I can. I don't have a web site in which to post pictures of my progress on yet but I am working in it. I have currently gotten to the point of fitting the hull sections to the keel. I will hopefully be finished with that in a few weeks and be putting the hull plates on. I have never built one from scratch before so this is kinda new to me. I am having a pretty good time with it so far tho. I plan on making a trip to see the Texas sometime this summer. I live in West Texas so its only about 500 miles away or so. I do have several books on the texas for assistance with this.

OldSalt43: You may need to call prior to going to see her. She is supposed to go into drydock for much needed hull preservation. I don't know when it may happen but, rumors for final disposition were flying about two months ago.

Dang, there is a 1/700 scale kit of it now?

Had to do some major surgery on the old 1/720 scale Pennsylvania to get mine. After having it packed away for many years, I just got it out and am cleaning it up. I just got a lot of my old ships out and am cleaning them up. There are even kits of some of them now.
