Mounting Waterline Ship to Base

I am building a Dragon Scharnhorst and would like to mount it waterline... what is the best way to do it without stressing the hull?

For all my waterline models, I drill a hole in the bottom and thread it with a flat head wood screw. Then I mount it on a piece of wood or plastic or whatever. That way the ship is always removable from the base.

Tell the hull that you'll be gentle, kiss it on its stern and wisper a bed-time story in its stack.

I drill two holes into the body as deeply as possible and tap them for countersunk machine screws (typically M3). The baseboard has appropriately spaced holes that are countersunk at the underside. Tapping for machine srews is less 'stressful' to the resin and poses less risks of splitting it. The tapping is a cutting action, while wood screws force the material out of their way.
