Mulberry Harbour

Post by chris Howlett »

Hello All,

This is a bit cheeky but I hope you can help me. I am planning to conduct a large scale bathymetric survey of the remains of the Mulberry Harbours located off Normandy. The survey is due to take place in September/October.

I hope to advertise the results with a series of talks etc after the event and am thinking it would be great to begin by showing what the harbours looked like when in use. I can do this with photos but would like some 3d cad models to place in the software which I will use to display the data of the remains. However, I have no models.

If any of you can make these that would be great - hence the cheeky bit! I am looking for models of the Phoenix caissons (all sizes), Bombardons, Pier heads, Intermediate pontoons and the roadways.

Interested to hear your thoughts.

Many thanks

Chris

I think you are in luck - the French company L'Arsenal is working on kits of this very thing and have produced CAD for it - see here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=77179

The link in that thread takes you to the newest page of their News section - the Mulberry CAD sits around halfway down on the second page.
De quoi s'agit-il?

Thanks Timmy,

I have been in contact with L'Arsenal but they are not very willing to let the cad models out as they are worried of someone else using them to make actual models - which is quite understandable! Their CAD drawings look superb though and I hope the models folow suit.

I know it's a little late, but about the time you were looking for this material I was creating some for a magazine.
This is of a portion of it called a "whale."
