Hi All Attended the Southport "Scale day" and managed
between judging duty to take a few on the water shots of
Richard Motyaka's superb 1:72 Sovremenniy.
Plus a few detail shots of the mast and hanger on his
latest creation the Udaloy 2 Admiral Chabanencko .
This model is unfinished but non the less Insperational stuff.

Simply STARTlING quality!!

Thanks Dave and Ron for posting the pics--the level of workmanship, subtle relief modelling as well as the 'muted' tones of colour make this chaps models stand out from the efforts of mere mortals.


I have to say though... just what is that HUGE paddlesteamer in the background of Ron's pics--it looks very large... 1/24 scale maybe?

Any more pics?

It's hard to believe but the hulls are made from card board faced inside and out with fibre glass resin. His next model is a 1:72 Kiev class carrier !

Well Jim, that large paddelsteamer is a tug, built out of cardboard cornflake boxes, the guy sit,s in it and stears it, poor old bill died the other year and his son brings it now, he has an even larger one at home.
Simple but effective.

Hi Jim The paddle tug in the back ground in Rons picture is "Cracker" and was built by the late Bill Willkenson. if you think that's big his model of JP Morgan's Steam yacht Corsar 1V is nearly 30ft long and powered by a four cylinder petrol engine.

It's "Pert" actually and is now radio controlled-it was human controlled until recently.

They have lost track of the Corsair, so its current position and condition are unknown.

Those models are indeed stunning, the Udaloy II, droooooooooooooollllllllll....
I guess he had some excellent references, the mast pictures even looked like real!!

Stunning models indeed. I must confess I thought at first the mast details were pictures of the actual ship for comparison!

Thanks for sharing.

Oh, and I second Timmy's question - there seem to be quite a number of ducks around...

In the picture showing the platform supporting the Cross Sword director all the cross members on the underside of that platform have been included. Having the privilege of judging this model I was surprised to see this sort of close attention to detail even in areas you don't normally see. Talking to the builder, after he's completed his Udaloy he'd would like the challenge of a 1:100 Kiev class carrier as 1:72 is just to large to transport.
