Making my first scratch-build.

Post by stevee28 »

Hello to you all,

Let me begin my first scratch-build, but I do not know where to start. I look on the internet but I can not find much and that's why I come to you. Can you help me to know what tools and what materials I would need?

Thank you for your help
See you soon

There are many different ways to scratchbuild a ship. Look through the different detailed build threads in the Completed (Fully Documented) section of the forum and see which method is most attractive to you. A lot of it also has to do with the scale you want to work in, so do keep that in mind.

Hull wise the initial question is full hull or waterline, the scale. For a large full hull plank on frame covered with fiberglass is good, smaller hulls, perhaps wood sandwich, for waterline styrene over bulkheads can work well. Did a 1:196 Alaska this way.

Goos luck. Tom
