Such a beautiful build I love how you can partially see the decks below the surface of the water. Breathtaking work thanks for posting Jim .

Congrats on this unique masterpiece that I think no one will ever match!
I'm glad that it turned out so well after the initial difficulties.

Hello gentlemen!

Encs herewith a few better images shot in daylight-- the full set will be in the gallery in due course.

So that's it for this build--a short 18 months span.... ha!

Infuriating it took so long ==> as so much of the ship is not there--yet just about everything that is visible is scratchbuilt and or heavily modified

The hardest bit was getting the water to be translucent..... yet opaque...

( Scapa Flow has a lot of tide and waterborne silt)

One can just about make out the hull underwater when viewing overhead from a 1/700 airship :big_grin: :cool_1: :wave_1:

The date of the model has been altered to 1920.... !!!
=============================================

Photos of the ship later--as was pointed out--do show the ship looking in a rather worse state with much equipment removed or " acquired " .....

though the ship may be on the bottom -- in 1920 she is not yet decrepit-....

- most of the standing rigging is in-place and only some of the running rigging has rotted and dropped out of the blocks into the water.....

=> the locals have not as yet removed every-thing that is not firmly fixed...

Some the railing cables at the bow have corroded through and are now hanging...

All in all a challenge to make it look interesting whilst matching up to grainy old photos

====================================================================

next model...?--Back to something where it all is afloat! :cool_2:

Gotta say, I was a bit skeptical this would turn out well in the beginning but you really pulled it off Jim! Just an amazing little diorama! :worship_1:

Great job!

The water is especially realistic. I want to try using gel on my Nagato base. You've inspired me.

Hey Jim,

the surface effect of the water is very realistic.
Once again, a fantastic build of an interesting idea - well done!

Hello Jim

the rendering the water is "screaming of truth" especially the deep effect at decks level of the wreck :woo_hoo:
"chapeau bas l'artiste"
congrats
cheers

That one is now officially my preferred from you Jim! I particularly like the transparency effects, and the very "it's grim up north" feeling about that one. On that scale this is quite unique indeed

On more than one occasion I have had to remind myself that it is a modell, not an image of the real wreck. Really well done!

I had my doubts at the start, but... WOW!

Well thank you all for your kind words !!!!

I am actually quite overwhelmed...!

I must confess-- that having a bit of distance from the model and re-looking a at her earlier today I am actually liking it more again!!!

Thanks again for your encouraging comments!!

I was waiting to see this result. You really pulled off a "Jim Baumann" again! Strikingly realistic, love that water effect and the gloomy atmosphere it creates. I guess you'd never succeed in getting a similar effect if you'd not submerge the entire ship but only build the protruding parts. It really paid off to use this thick layer in the transparent view from the top.
Great job and for once the long duration (!?) of the build is not entirely due to your extreme detailing, but due to the drying time of the gel ;)
