Although the USA is actually considering issuing "contracts of marque" to allow private contractors to operate in an anti-smuggling role, technically these have been illegal in international law for 100 years.

At least a private contractor can build or buy a ship that won't crack in half like the Coast Guard's, or cost a minimum of a half-billion dollars like the Navy.

All the old ww2 ships still left should be made usable and then private people could go "pirate hunting" on them. Imagine a pirate hunting adventure!

What's to keep private people from becoming pirate themselves?

I suppose it depends how hungry they are.

I raise hogs... :jump_1:

although i admit i never have 16 at a time, but there are plenty of friends in the area that have barns full of them.

You don't get it, do you?

You don't throw corpses over the side. You decompose them, for heaven's sake. Do listen to your PR people, that's good for you!

Yah, yah, yah! When I send rebellious prisoners through wood chipper feet first, they say I am fertilize the sea, and rant on about all that circle of life crap! What does a pirate have to do to avoid the cuddly tree hugger rep!
Actually, as Uday Hussein proved, an industrial plastic shredder is the best way to finish off your enemies. It's a little slower on the uptake, so they remain awake longer to enjoy the experience.

More ships hijacked, but the USN has convinced the pirates to leave them...

I had no idea I was saving the planet when I instituted the practice of chaining the passengers to rowing benches and throw their corpses over the side after they die. I thought I was just being a brutal and sadistic pirate!

Nah.

Hostages mean trouble. Take the cargo, be strict to the men, gallant to the ladies and hand out lollies to the children, and you'll be the media people's darling!

nevermind, its not over yet!

seems the report of the crew taking over was on a DIFFERENT VESSEL in the same area which was hijacked... this one, NORTH KOREAN! The USN is treating the wounded aboard a seperate destroyer in somali waters.

The incident i orginally report is still going on for the 2nd day. I believe the USN is refraining from attacking because they don't want to injure any crewmembers still alive, or damage the ship as that might cause a lot of trouble.
