The length of the hull seems to have been an important factor for the designers since they decided to opt for shorter barrels in midship turret rather than having hull longer by this, relatively small, amount....
I am both...the Brandenburg's were "Pre-Dreadnoughts" only in that they were built before HMS Dreadnought herself. despite what Jane's (a British publication!) may claim the Brandenburg's were the first "All-big-gun" or "Dreadnought" design, dispensing with the intermediate (15-25cm) cruiser caliber guns in favor of more main battleship (>25cm) guns, with the tertiary anti-torpedo boat QF guns becoming the secondaries (by default). something the British avoid mentioning is that, at the time these ships were built the 3rd Sea Lord of the Admiralty (the guy in charge of acquiring new weapons & examining foreign designs) was

Anyway (end rant) I just mounted & based my 2400 scale squadron of Brandenburg class Dreadnoughts & am starting to paint them, any tips on the painting of them. here's some pics, they were based white, the deck came out good but tried to adjust the other 2 to see detail & caused them to look dirty.
