Hi Les whilst I cannot disagree with what you say. Choice is in the eye of the beholder. The same could have been said for every dreadnought, every battle cruiser, and every carrier. In one sense they where designed just as platforms to do a job no more. The fact that the some warships looked better than others was coincidental and remains so. Some of the best warships ever built were the ugly ducklings of the fleet.

The corvette also is very interesting...
As much as I love the RN to bits . I have trod the decks of numerous RN warship over the past years, that being said my personal preferences are elsewhere. Although I still consider the Type 42 stretched as the best looking warship ever built in modern times and I have been on evey type 42.

Also, not sure if you know, but we do have a Stereguschiy thread in the CASF section that you might like to take a look at - I posted a few nice dry dock pics there :)

Thanks Timmy . I will be the first to admit it was touch and go as to whether I went ahead . But the guys on the board particulary Neptune, Mick and Atom44 have been very supportive and I am grateful for that help. Cheers guys :thumbs_up_1:

I agree, stealthy as she is, she's sleek and powerful looking - proof that even when they build stealthy, the Russians still keep a powerful look to their warships.

I guess the cats out the bag as they say . For some months now I have been searching for a suitable project to follow KIEV and I have been giving thoughts as to which direction to go in . I would still like to build Kirov but in 1:144 more research is needed and I need a sabbatical from "large" warships { Kiev when completed will have taken nearly 4 years} but as a longer term goal Kirov remains one of my must build projects. So with that in mind what ship will follow Kiev? The answer as some may well have guessed is the Steregushchiny or "Project 20380. A large OPV type warship but classed as a Frigate. The vessel is quite new entering service in 07 and really does retain some attractive features, often lacking in "stealthy warships. I would very much like to thank all those that have helped in providing information and support so this project can get off the ground so to speak.
Well here it is the next scratch build project .All being well Steregushchiny will be underway by June'July .

Yo Dave,

Further to my previous, I have just had a look at 'comparethemeercat.com' and Aleksandor advises 'finish 'Rurik'. Simples' (Squeak).

For our American friends, there is an advert on UK TV for a car insurance website that features a Meercat with a Russian accent! I and a lot of people find it hilarious. To see it is to treally appreciate just how daft it is.

Dave,

As much as it goes against the grain I unfortunately have to agree with SG, finish the 'Rurick'. No fiddly intricate radar to do and think of the saving on your eyesight, not mention sanity. You've got the hull done and if you ain't too sure of what the Port side looks like why not buy a card model to refer too? Makes sense to me. Think about it

I didn't see his Sovremenny, I will confess, but yes - I DID see his Udaloy II - Sheer awesomesauce, drizzled on an awesomesauce-filled cake baked with pure uncut awesome in it.

I have to second Neptune - a Kresta would look equally cool, perhaps a later thought.

Kirovs are just very spectacular. I Do love the presentation of them.

In that case.... My archive is open to you, as it has always been. I'll send you some extremely nice drawings, a series of Velikiy cuts. Sean has already received them in the past. I'm sure they will be helpful for you. :heh: Too bad for the Kara though, I would have loved to see one from your hand, the least I could do was try ! :cool_1:

Neptune wrote:Hmm, I'm of course in favor of the Rurik, or something else, like a Kara or Kresta II maybe. The latter classes would be nice as they can accompany the Kiev (like they did in reality). Velikiy was only active in the 90's, after the Kievs were taken out of service. Also, everybody has a Kirov or Velikiy nowadays, since Trumpeter brought them in. Kresta's or Kara's are extremely rare, yet very heavily armed, two things that are very attractive to me.
As for the underwater arrangement of the Velikiy, what you say is true, one can only model what he sees or can find in any pictures. Nobody can prove you wrong unless he has some real evidence to back it up and you can still adapt that later if you really want to. The research in the Calling All Kirov fans topic is pretty thorough, with a lot of reference material, if nothing certain comes out of that, then I doubt anybody can prove any arrangement wrong or right!

What you say is true but you seldom see a large scale Kirov model and to be fair they do look superb on the water. As an example take the Bismarck , there are many such models even parts for a kit you can buy monthly in high street news agents. Yet modelers like Kiwi medic still rise to the challenge and go one better in the research and construction.Over the years the information on Bismarck has mushroomed allowing more acurate models to be produced. Equally this could apply to the Kirov or Velikiy or any Soviet or Russian warship past or present . There is no doubt that this sort of feed back helps to focus ideas and I'm grateful for that but I would like to have some firm idea in place for when the Kiev is completed.
