I had made some changes to PTG's water cooling system recently, so I took her out for some trials on the weekend, it was an improvement, but still not their yet.

Rob, are they the same plans that come with the hull that you and I have mate?
If not do they come with the lines of the ship?

Hi Dorian, a long time ago, i.e. 2010 I purchased a set of these plans off ebay. They are not 100% accurate, but very close and considering I am building her as she looks now, then my model will be naturally different anyway.

It has been a long time, since posting.
As I no longer have photo bucket, I need to find something to host photos, so will do that soon. In the meantime a you tube video is below.

The model is in the middle of being rebuilt now from the decks up. About 12 months ago I got introduced to 3D printing by a friend in TF72 and haven't looked back, actually I've probably gone a bit crazy with it, but I do love it. It's a completely new skil lset that opens up a lot of ideas when it comes moving parts and detail.
At the moment the fwd half of the ship is progressing well, but their still remains a lot to do, i.e. 4 radars now rotate, only another 5 to go....:)

Hi Dave, I do the same thing as Paul. I have a Mazda CX9 (which has a lot of space) but Peter the Great consumes it all, basically when I take this model out, all that can go in the CX9 is the ballast batteries and one passenger.

100% Awesome!!! Impressive model indeed and sails very nicely. Very sharp finish as well. Love the camera idea and the execution of the idea looks like a succes as well.

Stunning build . Question how do you transport such a large model . I remember having with difficulty to transport HMS Daring at 1:72nd and that's a small model compared to your Peter the Great . . Paul Bannon has recently completed a 1:144 Kuznetzov and had to divide the hull into two for ease of transport in a vehicle with plenty of boot space but not enough for a full hull model . Although he devised a cunning plan which made the whole exercise less stressful . Your Peter the Great is really impressive a striking model indeed.

The next piece of electric's that has recently been added is a FPV system (First Person View). I have it my Arleigh Burke Destroyer (USS Roosevelt - DDG 80) and have become a big fan of these.

The camera is a live feed operating on 5.8 and is located inside the Tomb Stone Fire Control radar which is on top of her bridge with a 180degree servo for moving the camera. I will post up a video of it after testing.

Whilst it doesn't look like a lot has been added, I've replaced a few parts. Last summer a few pieces buckled in the 45 degree days. As it's about to move into Spring I replaced those, hopefully this summer their will be no issues. Also playing around with the cooling for the engines, using water cooling, but it not enough at the moment.

Hi Neptune, thanks for the comments. A little while into the build I have to say I did stop and think "what have I actually taken on here" I can spend hours making a few parts, put them on and realise they are such a small part of the model over all.

Below are 3 shots of my almost finished model of HMS Arrow (Fleetscale kit) beside Peter the Great, Arrow is also at 1:72 so you can get a comparison. By the way the base of the stand where the hull sits is the same height from the table.

This is great. Sort of assumed all these projects (I think at some point in time 3 together on this class of ship), were stopped dead in their tracks due to their large size and complexity.
I'm extremely happy to see you hung on and got this far already. Great quality of build so far and it looks superb on the water, although I'd imagine the picture doesn't do justice to the real size of this model! It doesn't really give much reference and 1/1 scale water always has a dwarfing effect to RC Ships.

This image shows me a problem you might have with your joints.
Other shots show some sort of putty you are using or is it an undercoat.
I don't know if this image above is a work in progress of not.
My dad showed me how to overcome such a problem.
When you have to pieces join make one over sized, then wait for it to dry COMPLETELY. (Just want to stress this point)
Then get your hobby knife and trim back and if necessary hold the blade square and scrape it back for a perfect square edge.
If you do this you will need much less putty and have a sharp edge.
Again great work mate and keep up your work. I hope to make a start mine soon.

Just a quick one from the last time she was in the water, video is best viewed at 1080, full screen.

Thanks Dave, I purchased 6 Kashtans from Shapeways, not cheap, but brilliant quality, more than I could achieve by hand, and a lot less frustrating....:)
The vast majority of the model though is all scratch built either by myself or experts in their area's, i.e. George Sitek manufactured a brilliant running set for her off photos.
