Upon further review it's most likely just Measure 12 with a miss-understood bow demarcation pattern. Lots of inconsistencies in source documents that I don't have time or energy to post for discussion, so I'm going to fall back on occam's razor.

Can you elaborate? 5-L is a slightly lighter blue-gray than the 5-H on the vertical surfaces but I hadn't noticed the 5-L application on masts in the Measure descriptions.

My main interest is McDougal (late 1941) and by extension the other Porters in their original configuration; I noticed (good) photographs of the Porters & Somers are not very easy to find. I'll have to order the one from the IWM I posted above; it is magnificent.

I don't see evidence of a 5-L mast, which was why I said Measure 18. Rick Davis has a lot of photos of destroyers in it earlier than originally thought, but I'm back from a week off and catching up at work has kept me from doing a search through the stuff he's sent in the past to look. I'll drop him a line...

Isn't this a little early for Ms 18? The photos date from August, 1941, so a Ms 2 variant seems more likely to me.

The destroyer is in Measure 18, actually.

EJ ,I don't know for sure but I thought it was a variation of measure 2. It follows the sheer line and the 5 D lower band had been discontinued.
