Another prospective alternative to the twin island Shtorm and the catamaran carrier. A more asthetically pleasing design (to me anyway) but I see the Russians still won't/can't get beyond the ski-jump on the bow even with catapults on the angled deck. https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/secur ... ft-carrier

The incentive to understate the displacement is not there. If anything, the Russians would overstate the displacement in order to create the impression of a capability their economy and remaining industrial base can not longer support.

I think there is no real possibility at all of Russia building anything larger than 20,000 tons or so for the foreseeable future. All carrier designs they put out are deception operations to make it look like their weakness is temporary, when in fact there is nothing whatsoever on the horizon that suggest they can change the country's inability to support anything more.

From last July: another design...

Russia unveils yet another new aircraft carrier design

Russia has yet again unveiled a new aircraft carrier design.
At an annual Russian defence exhibition, the Krylov State Scientific Center unveiled concept for a new aircraft carrier.
Russia appears to do this every year and as most of you will be aware, the designs never progress further either due to a lack of will or resources on the part of the Russian military.

Also the air wing is not what to expect, the new MiG-29k is going to I completely replace the Flankers.

Well, powerplant sounds realistic in fact, North Carolina BB had 28knots on same displacement but on a much shorter hull at 121 000 hp. Length is speed so 110000 hp on a long hull for 28knots sounds realistic.

It looks a bit too long for the displacement, but I think technically possible. Petr Velikiy is about 50 meter shorter at about 25000 tons, but it has a much higher armament weight, and in a carrier, more of the displacement can go into the hull.

Admiral Kuznetsov class is actually similar in length but bulkier due to heavy AS armement high up resulting in larger weight, width and draft, also causing a more powerful conventional steam plant installation which is heavier then gas turbines.

Not quite a light carrier however, quite comparable to the new chinese ones. Quite interesting also, which early warning planes are planned. Definitely not A50s ;)

Looks like a great deal of mis-information. Much like the Myoko being a "10,000" ton cruiser.

The displacement doesn't match the hull size, and the powerplant doesn't match either. 40,000 tons with 110,000 HP for 28 knots? That's about the same plant as a Burke class DDG. Something's wrong with the numbers here.

I agree. Based on that model, it looks like a bigger carrier than 40,000 tonnes.

The deck elevators would limit future aircraft development.

Since the Shtorm (Project 23000E) had a snowball's chance in hell of ever being built, it appears the Russians have scaled back their carrier ambitions to something a bit more reasonable and realistic. The new proposal was recently revealed by the Krylov Research Center here: http://www.navyrecognition.com/index.ph ... esign.html
