Brass Mounts

Anyone know where in the UK I can buy finished brass hull mounts with which to display my finished models on plinths? I'm not really interested in using pieces of cut tubing or wood blocks etc. but proper museum standard/style mounts to attach to both the hull and plinth. Many thanks.

You might want to try your local B&Q and have a look at the brass plumbing fittings some of which make very good mounts...

Still surprises me why any of the leading suppliers of our hobby has not added this to their catalouge.

According to numerous questions on this and other forums, it seems like a constantly sought after item. Since some builders manage to find and use them, they apparantly exist. In my opinion, the retailer who finds a source for this will have very good sales.

Look at an electric or hardware store for lamp finals (the things that hold a lampshade on the lamp).

Les, I was going to say the same thing about the Lighting Supply.

Another thing you could do is pick up wood pieces at a craft store and giuld them in Gold/ Copper Leaf....Gold leaf can be time comsuming on larger items....I once did the exterior of a antique Claw Foot Tub but little wooden parts shold be a breese.

I have checked all these types of stores (i. e. chains of stores) in Sweden and none of them carries these items nor have ever heard of them! And I think this is also the case in many other countries. So my earlier comment is still valid. The hobby supplier with the greatest initiative will have a big seller if they make the effort to include brass pedistals in their catalouge!

You could try the Model Dockyard from Truro in Cornwall.

They are quite likely to have what you're looking for and their mail order delivery system uses the same Stargate wormhole technology as White Ensign.

Hmmm, I'm having trouble finding lampshade risers anywhere apart from on US websites. So, my next question concerns plain brass tubing as mounts - how would you guys go about fixing it to the hull and plinths? Never done this before so I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks!

Use a bolt and a nut through the middle of the brass tube- That's what I have done before.

If you have a good cigar store in your town, check for brass Snuffits (used for putting out cigarettes). They are inexpensive and work great for mounting ships.
