Launching missiles

Post by Steppenrig »

Hey guys

Does anyone here know of a way to launch multiple missiles in sequence (as in from a USN/AUS vertical lauch system?)

There is a guy in Sydney who has a 1:72 Arleigh burk scratchbuilt that fires missiles one at a time (rapidly though) using a servo or a switch (not quite sure) I can't figure out how to implement the firing system.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Are you talking about the actual connection to the missiles, or the Radio tech stuff?

Using a switch 16, http://www.modelcontrol.com/switch16.htm you can set up 16 momentary pushbuttons on your TX using one channel, then you have 16 outputs from the RX connected to the igniters in the missiles.

If you want the missiles to fire faster than you pushing a button, then use one button and design a delay cct between each missile. The delay cct can be made to fire off a half second (or whatever time you want) after getting the signal, daisy chaining them will give you a cascade effect. I don't think that's a good idea though. Once started, you couldn't stop it if anything went wrong.

Also keep in mind, that this kind of pyrotechnics is most likely illegal in most places. You'd require a license at the minimum, but I believe launch controls by radio signal is a no-no due to interference issues.

ADMHAWK,

I'm interested in launching one missile at a time, so one push, one missile.

It's just an idea at this stage, I'm mainly concentrating on building the CG itself first.

Pay special attention to the center of gravity. Ensure the missiles are round and the fins are straight and true, otherwise they will corkscrew all over. I speak from experience.

Other than that, the Quest Micro Maxx Motors are really small and probably would work nicely for you.
