How are you, Christian? Please keep me informed when you and the other Gamblers will go to an event. I am so lazy to search for upcoming events that I miss a lot :doh_1: (like Fuldatal).Dirk
Hi Dirk,

sorry for my late reply, but there is really a lot of real work to do at the moment. I will keep you informed for sure! But this year only Telford or maybe, for Guido and me Mol in Belgium. Shows in Germany not untill next year.
I was really impressed by the progress you have made in your Mogami. Your effort for all the small details is amazing :thumbs_up_1:
I'm also back with a new WIP, look for my HMS Shearwater :cool_2:
Keep on going mate :wave_1:
Cheers,
Christian

Thanks Christian! :wave_1:
I am also planning to go to the Telfort event. I hope I can finish the Mogami until then and additionally build a ship model transport container.
You think that you can finish HMS Shearwater for the Telford show?
I kept on going and populated the "flight deck" with 4 Petes and 5 Jakes. Here the result:

Fantastic work, Mogami's flight deck is looking appropriately busy. I admire your willingness to take brutal close ups, and admire even more the fact that your work is undoubtedly superb even when shown under such great magnification! I often have to remind myself that what I'm looking at is a mere inch or two in size! :thumbs_up_1:

Thank you very much gtbred and Jose! :wave_1:
Jose, I just decided to stop my model activities for two weeks because I have to go to a Conference to Sydney, Australia and give a presentation there (Unfortunetely not about ships). And the presentation is still not prepared. So
you still moving at a fast pace
will be not true the next time. But I have an answer about the lightbulbs I using: "Many (see picure)". They are all of the energy saving type and I think thast especially the floor uplighter is very effective to reduce problems with shadows. Some of the bulbs give a more cold light, others a warm light. I am not shure if the white balance is absolutely correct.
I use a lot of lightbulb (enery saving type) to take pictures

But another important factor is: I am using the Helicon Focus program which allows to combine several pictures shot with the same motive but different focus length. This is fantastic. Information are on
http://www.heliconsoft.com/index.html
It has a price but for 115 US-Dollar you get the lite version for lifetime with updates. For me this program was another milestone (like a Optivisor similar product or an airbrush). I just upgraded my licence to the Pro X64 version, because I am using this program all the time. I can highly recommend this program and when anybody has answers about it, I will try to answer it.

Sorry, in my last post there are a lot of spelling mistakes  . And I wrote: "...and when anybody has answers about it, I will try to answer it." This is nonsense :doh_1: . What I wanted to state is the following: ""...and when anybody has questions about it, I will try to answer it." Dirk

The model is looking very good.

Will you be bringing her to Telford - for the competition also?

Helicon eh....?

Must try that-- certainly seems to improve over f 36 ...!!

Thanks und vielen Dank, Jim!
Yes, my plan is to bring her to Telford and for the competition. How much of your models can we expect?
Concerning the Helicon: I use a compact camera (Canon PowerShot G9) with max. f 8. But with this software it is possible to increase the depth of field significantly (nearly indefinitely).
Sometimes this can reduce the three-dimensional appearance when everything is in focus. In the following picture from my Tone (see also viewtopic.php?f=60&t=45696) the Chokai in the background is out of focus on purpose to give some impression of width. No problem with the Helicon to have both models sharp.
Tone in focus and Chokai out of focus

Probiers mal aus.

Thanks Jose, Mark and gtbred for your feedback! :wave_1:
Mark, your Maya looks already great. Very good work with the brass strips. How did you do it?
Now, that I am back from my Australia trip the start was not easy. Therefore, here only a baby step.
I produced another motor launch and motor boat for the port position. This time I covered the frame of the motor boat with a tarp imitation (Teflon tape).

I added the tie down chain imitations (airbrushed insect pins) before gluing the boats to the deck (Mogami139).

Superb weathering.. I saw some modeller too concern with accurate small parts details of the ship that they ignore weathering which is the thing that really brings model to life.

I think yrs achieve it.

Thank you Marek! :wave_1:
I have to admit that this is not my own idea. I saw this in several Gakken magazines on models of IJN ships made by Japanese modelers.
Some of them are in scale 1/100 with tons of details. Some of these details can be downscaled to 1/350.
