Ka-27 plans...

To advocates of 1:72 scale Ka-27 from Zvezda in 1:72 http://militarymodel.com.ua/shop/produc ... -7214.html - may be needs some corrections as to drawings but at least something to start from (but in 1:72)

Hi Yevgeniy Good to hear from you .Yes I was very tempted to go for 1:72 as it would have made life so much easier but I have always thought that model making is not so much about the easy options as about the hard ones . Thanks for taking an interest in this new build . There is a slight delay in construction slip 1 gets the lions share of my time just at present as this is work for the magazine . Once I have sufficent build progress under my belt I'll start laying the Keel of the Steregushchiy. That of course doesn't stop up dates but they will be more associated with getting equipment together . Take this timber for example .It is .50 mm in thickness , it's incredibly flexible , strong and ideal for double diagonal planking or any sheeting .

Hi Richard My local model supplier stocks all different thicknesses of Marine ply. My lumber yard also has a good selection of standard thicknesses in huge sheets. If I only require a small amount he�ll give me the off cuts. But specialist .50mm marine ply is expensive and I have to order it through my model supplier. The advantage of this timber is that is will form around compound curves with no problems, in many respects it is more malleable and far stronger than styrene in the same thickness . Hi Dave, Thats just sligthly thiner than what im using, mine is 1/32 of an inch, thats 32 sheets to the inch, you get 50 to the inch.

Hi Ron I think this is close to the imperial 1/64th , it's like paper . To be honest I have never used this thickness of timber for covering a hull so I'm a new boy in the class. Sir how do I do this!!!!!

Hi Dave, You will find the ply bends easier one way than another, so you have to cut your ply the way it flows easiest.

Do you know if the ship is fitted with magnatometers, just trying to figure out for you what the two openings either side of the TAS are. Both appear to have a shute and roller

If you don't mind me asking how much is the 0.5 marine ply and for what size sheets

Hi Roy good to hear from you . You could be right regarding the two openings either side of the TAS. I can't get any conformation on that one but it is interesting to speculate . The marine ply 1ft x 4ft retails around �16 for a sheet . A 4mm sheet of non marine ply same size would cost around �5 . It is expensive but apparently the thinner the sheet the more it costs

My guess would have been rails for mine laying similar to what the Sovremenny's have but with the rail system internalized rather than out on deck, due to lack of deck space. Just a guess.
