Wonderful work, Christian. I do have a question, where did you get the oil drums on your Shearwater dock and your barge? I need some for my 1/350 LCM.

sorry for my very late reply and thank you for your kind comment!
Mr. Jaques Druel from L'Arsenal in France was so kind to send some oil drums for my projects. The oil drums are not in their catalogue at the moment, but Jaques told me he will try to make a production run.
Seems to me there is a market demand for some accessories in scale 1/350. Next to oil drums wooden boxes etc. are also interesting for harbour scenes.
Cheers,
Christian

Re: My scale 1/350 modeling yard
Hello Gentleman,
some progress on my HMS Trafalger diorama. I add a warehouse and some lanterns to the quay. Now the setting looks good to me and the diorama is nearly finish for the paint job. Yesterday I've got one of the first 1/350 test shots of a TID class tug from Burkhardt Masch - BMK. The well casted model looks really nice and is a long awaited asseccorie. Burkardt told me that BMK will make some PE for the model.

Re: My scale 1/350 modeling yard
Hello Gentleman,
after some absent from modelmaking because of holiday and a lot of work in the office I make some progress on my HMS Montgomery.
At first I add some extra details to the bridge, and fix the whole railing. The flaggstaff at bow and stern are made of 0.2 and 0.3 mm brass rod. Note the position lantern at the stern flaggstaff! The flat photo etched prop guards did not portray the original prop guard made of round material. So I made new ones from 0.2 and 0.3 mm brass rod. Also nearly finished the aft deck house with railing and a new made aft compass cover. The frame was made of brass rod. For the cover I used PVA glue.

Seeing this crisp and neat work always make me feel inadequate - Ive watched Christian at work and its amazing how sharp and neat he works. To me, its a pure aesthetic pleasure to see such excellent work.
Looking forward to seeing the completed ship

Re: My scale 1/350 modeling yard
Hello Gentleman,
thank you very much for all your friendly comments.
Well, back to the model. The splinter mats along the upper bridge comes as PE part with the kit. I dont like the flat PE parts for the mats. I made new ones from 0.3mm plastic part. I cut the styrene with a sharp hobby knife in small stripes and cut the parts to length. The length of the parts is adapted to the bridges bulwark. The cross at each mat was engraved with a pin. I normally use a tool holder to handle the pin. Next step is to add more detail to the open bridge and to fix the rest of the small parts. I hope to find some time to finish the model as soon as possible.
Beside working on HMS Montgomery there is a little bit more to do in my modeling yard. Some of the display bases of my 1/350 scale are old and fit not well to my new display bases. A good reason to make a new one for my HMS Wren. For all my new 1/350 scale models I used Frank Spahrs method for making water. To get a more or less choppy sea I used a special filler for wood. This filler works quite well with the wooden base and is easy to apply and sand. Today the final paint job was done and Im still waiting to add some coats of gloss varnish - hope you like it?!

Great - those splinter mats are a very visible improvement over the PE items - very neatly done!
I do like the sea base - the gloss coat will really bring it to life!
Best regards
Frank

Re: My scale 1/350 modeling yard
Hello Gentleman,
Mmhh, Montgomery seems to be a never ending story
When I start the project I thought to build the boat in her early RN career with two 20mm Oerlikon on the midship deck but without the separate gun platforms and hedgehog. The model is now nearly finished but looking again to my references it seems to me the open bridge looks different to the 1941 bridge. I dont want to rebuild the finished bridge so I decide to build her in the late 1942 early 1943 configuration as the kit comes out.
I had to build the the gun platforms (PE parts) and the closed searchlight platform. Last but not least, the hedgehog. The one, that comes along with the kit looks like a box and I decide to build a new one from plastic sheet and rod. Following a sketch in John Makays Anatomy of the Ship The Flower Class Corvette Agassiz it took me a few hours and sharp eyes to finish the hedgehog. Looking to the model it comes out quite nice to me and I hope not to find some more to modify because in the end I want to start to paint the boat this summer

Very nice work Christian, I was planning on something similar with the Trafalgar until I completely screwed up the paintwork...

Re: My scale 1/350 modeling yard
Hello Gentleman,
@John, thank you for your kind comment!
Next to HMS Montgomery there are some more models in progress. One is WEMs MTB 794. The boat is nearly finished but I did not really like the kit parts for the torpedo tubes, they look not very well to the model.
I asked BMK for some weeks ago to make some new tubes from brass rod. I recently received the parts and today I start building the new torpedo tubes using the BMK brass parts, the kit PE parts and some flat and rod styrene. At first I add a styrene rod at the end of each tube to get a fine round hat, what the brass tubes still miss (too small to drill in the milling machine). Second I cut of the old tubes from the PE frame and reassemble the frame with two pieces of flat styrene and small brackets to hold the tubes. A pressure vessel is fixed at the right side of each tube. The pressure vessel was also made from styrene rod. A test fit show that the parts fit and look well to the rest of the boat.

Re: My scale 1/350 modeling yard
Hello Gentleman,
at first thank you all very much for your interest and for all your kind comments!
Today some more progress on my HMS Montgomery I think I dont want to paint her, because I found more and more thinks to modify and add to the model
As explained I decide to build the boat in her late war fit. Looking again to my references I found out, that she wear a flagstaff at the searchlight tower. I add a flagstaff made from 0.3 and 0.2mm brass rod. Next are some LArsenal Cal. 30 MGs. There were two on port and starboard next to the second funnel. The boats are now fixed to the davids and I changed the kits floats, now I will use the brand new LArsenal RN Carley floats (no. 350 94). Some more modification on the open bridge. I add a captains chair, a bulwark behind the chair and some more lockers. Last but not least some more details at the mast. At first I add a Type 291 radar to the top of the mast. The antenna is a PE part but the support was made from 0.2mm brass rod. Second, a cover for the crow nest. The crow nest is the modified kit part and the cover was made from styrene rod sanded with a sanding stick to get the round shape.

Re: My scale 1/350 modeling yard
Hello Gentleman,
All the parts of HMS Montgomery are ready to paint. Last weekend I applied a first coat of white and at the coming weekend I will go forward with WA blue. Some more photos will follow as soon as possible. Because the paint need some time to dry I have made some progress on my MTB display. I add a roof to the top of the house and an entrance gate. Now I think about a nice color for the house. A warm ochre should be a nice color tone?!
