Hi,

I worked on the rudders so I can now add the lower und upper endcaps of the rudders. I will do them with a sandwhich of 2 * 0.5mm styrene sheets.

Hi,

thank you both for your kind comments! :-)

I need your assessment, please ... I made some weld seams as seen in the attached photos. What do you think about them, please?

Talk to you soon,

Bernd.

Hi,

I made one side of a rudder. I will sand the welds tomorrow with a 1000 grid paper to make them less prominent ... what is your impression, please?

Bye,

Bernd.

Bernd,

I like your weld bead technique very much - except for one thing. It is going to add a lot of work to my model if I try to replicate all of the welds!

With very small diameter styrene rod adding an excess of solvent when gluing should cause the thin rod to melt and flow into the groove to make a slightly irregular and convincing weld bead.

I like this better than the decal weld beads for two reasons. Scribing the groove can be done with good precision to get the welds in the exact location. Second, you don't have the "decal edge" caused by the thin decal film. Even after using decal softeners and such the edge may still be visible. This is what has prevented me from using the rivet and weld seam decals.

Bernd I must admit it is very rare to see such level of detail added to the rudder although such lines are almost invisible on most rudders ! Question I recall Phil Ardell fitting sacrificial anodes to his Bismarck rudders? Once again you have lifted the bar to a higher level, now its back to the work shop to think again. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Hi,

thanks for your input. :thumbs_up_1: Indeed its a lot of work ... :heh:

I checked photos of Bismarcks rudder and hull and depending on light conditions weldseams are clearly visible. I try to make them visible when you have "your nose on the model", but they should almost completely vanish when you step back from it. So I sanded the weldseams a little down. I hope to airbrush the rudders around tuesday or wednesday. Then we will have a homogenous surface to judge their appearance.

I will add the anodes later - I will do them as PE parts.

Bye now,

Bernd.
