Calling all Bismarck and Tirpitz fans

I have one quick question regarding Bismarck kits in 1/350, which one to buy, Revell or Tamiya ?
Plan to build Bismarck from may 41 first and last cruis.

If you search around on here and on other sites I think the general concensus is that the Revell kit is superior to the Tamiya kit. I bought the Tamiya kit for the quality and simpler construction. The Revell kit is better detailed without a doubt, with extras such as inj moulded railings??? You need to decide for yourself mate.

Just buy the Trumpeter 1/200 and be done with it!!

Agree with Nigel, go for the revell definitely over tamiya. I'd also be biased and say the trumpeter 1/200

If you do go with the revell though, please do yourself a favour and replace the railings at a minimum. The plastic ones in the kit are way over scale. They're more like balaustrading on an industrial site than railings on a ship.

in connection with my questions above, I noticed that even on builders' model the life rings are white or at least very light grey; could this be a fact of the real color?

Life rafts were light grey same as the superstructure. It is known that the KM later had yellow rafts, but these rafts were usually square in shape and not the rectangular early shape.

The life rings would have been red as it was predominately for man overboard and needed to be seen.

Looking in your nice built I notices that trumpeter is giving them as a unified stucture.

The yellow square rafts are not really a late addition. The colour photos from Gotenhafen do show them yellow on L�tzow (with Bismarck in the background).

Later, it could have happened that rafts and floats were incorporated into the camouflage scheme.

Dear all,

Although rarely posting, I've been watching for several months with great interest, the various highly detailed Bismarck builts in this forum and thank you for valuable information shared.

I would much appreciate the experts' opinion/info on the following:
1.Studying several published pictures and 3d drawings on the bismarck as well as wreck video shoots, it appears to me that the width of the shelter bridge "wings" is greater that the width of the wings of the deck above; however ther is a discrepancy noted in the various drawings/3D images and plastic models. Can anyone enlighten us?
2.There is some equipment installed on top of the shelter bridge wings port & stbd; is there any info on the type/use of this installation?
3. It is apparent on some pictures that the firehoses and life rings are of a dark shade; is this shade orange or red or could be something different i.e grey? was the orange color used at that era for the lifesaving equipment?

I've seen green on the 1942 camouflage scheme's (around September) on the Gally planset and he insisted this was correct.
The June 1942 splotch pattern appears to be a brown/green combination. Hwowver, Asmussen's camouflage are grey tones only.

A search in the Zeiss museum under navigations-sehrohre revealed the periscope type C9/C11 which looks pretty much similar to the one depicted on the wreck video.

I wish I knew how to post pictures in order to upload the pictures for those interested.

It is more likely that on the command post roof(conning tower) there were the periscopes mentioned above (navigations sehrohre C9) while on bridge wing roof (shown on wreck picture above) there were binoculars (navigations sehrohr C10), but is difficult to judge from one wreck picture only, of course.

No, C10 (or C12) is too small. It has to be C9 (or C11). A C10 is for the helmsman. It would make no sense on the bridge wing. You can probably see a C10 on top of the conning tower.

There's the early one with james cameron where they go down in Russian Subs, then there's the film where the remote subs are sent down, slightly more recent I believe. Then you've got the Nazi Supership film, but, there's also a film where they actually go down in subs and nearly get stuck on a piece of the Hull.

It's this latest film I cant find... can anyone help? I think in this film they finally prove that the Germans actually scuttled Bismarck. I really want to see this film again...
