It's one of those builds that makes one want to go chuck their project in the garbage, but sometimes we just need a pie in the sky to reach for!

Yes that's the arrangement.Charlestonguy wrote:I would like to know as well.tms wrote:So, should we assume that we have the arrangement as per below?
It seems to me that it's a steel deck and we can see gratings in this picture. Regarding the aft command post deck on Bismarck you are right. Regarding Tirpitz the deck was only partially planked and also had steel deck with gratings.Charlestonguy wrote: Your picture also has a view of the steel deck where the bridge wings extend from. This along with the aft radar/rangefinder deck should be steel too. They did use wood grating on the open bridge and forward aft rangefinder deck area over the steel.
I have the Pontos deck (which is super in detail and a very good price compared to others) and have seen this on other wood decks and most kits as planked. I know Tirpitz aft rangefinder was planked but not Bismarck based on the wreak pictures.
If anyone has authoritative information to contradict this please show us.
kabelodeovo wrote:I bought barrels for my Bismarck 1/200 and comparing with the barrels that came with the kit, they are completely different. My intention is discover which is more accurate. See picture below, the barrel on the top came with the kit and the other one I bought on the Ebay as part of one set of barrels.
Converting the size you informed to 1/200 scale (in centimeters) the dimensions are:
A=0,47 cm
B= 1,12 cm
C= 1,89 cm
D= 3,02 cm
Trumpeter barrel:
A=0,5 cm
B= 1,49 cm (not match)
C= 1,89 cm
D= 3,1 cm
Total length 7,5 cm.
Ebay barrel:
A= 0,8 cm
B= 0,9 cm
C= 1,6 cm
D= 3,3 cm
Total length 7 cm.
So the Trumpeters barrel, despite the dimension B, looks like more accurate.
DANK!

Don't worry about it. If you're building a model, whatever time frame, you will get it right without me or anyone else pointing it out.BobaFettSlave_1 wrote:What detail are you speaking of Olaf?
I can answer a couple of these questions at least.Yancey101 wrote:Hello, I am brand new to the forum and I have a couple of ship builds that have done well in Region 12 shows. I build just about every thing but I think my niche is going to be in ship building. I also research my subjects extensively almost to a fault. So, any help with some Bismark detail questions would be greatly appreciated.
I intend on building her(him) on or near May 21st 1941 using the 1/200 Trumpy model with Pontos and MRK 1 photoetch/resin.
FS or equivalents for the 50 / 51 paint, and dunkelgrau 2. Some horizontal surfaces on the superstructure look to me to be the same color as the vertical surfaces of the superstructure and some are darker. Am I seeing this correctly?
I see the GHG microphones on one website and on the Trumpeter model but I cannot find this on any drawings that I have found. Did this listening device really exist? Were the dots open holes or was there a membrane or diaphram of some sorts. Were there more sea chests, sea intakes than what is on the model? If so, are there any drawings in existance dipicting locations?
Were the flags flown similar to US Navy. Jacks in port, Ensigns, Admirals?
Did they keep any Arados ready on the catapults or were they all kept in the hangers until time to launch?
Now this question is one that I am pulling my hair out with. Do the 1.6M searchlights have louvers inside of thier lenses? Searchlights that I have seen have a parabolic mirror in the back. I know that the signaling lamps had them, off-on, off-on. Please help me with this one!
One more. Were the life rings really orange?
Again, thanks for any help.
