Show the WORST boat in your collection!

Post by Channell »

We spend a lot of time impressing (and being impressed by) each other with insane and incredible builds... since I found this site I've really enjoyed the almost daily bombardment of work that consistently leaves me slack-jawed and in awe. I don't think I've ever seen so many incredibly talented people on 1 website! :thumbs_up_1:

So I thought it would be fun to have a spot where we can come "back to earth" and proudly proclaim our imperfect human nature with our worst ships that still have a place on our display shelves for whatever reason.

Here's my "black sheep":

I think I've crapped out turds that are closer in accuracy to the real thing than what Revell managed with their 90's vintage 1/400 Typhoon. I'm not sure what possessed me to build it, but here is in it's glorious unaltered, clown-nosed form.

Minus paint dry time, this one took me maybe 2 hours to build. The only reason I still have it on my display shelf is because I built it a long time ago and my kids have thus far been unable to break it. The "weathering" is a complex process involving carefully sitting and collecting dust for 10 years. The half-peeled off depth marker decals give it special touch too.

Hahaha, oh man.

First boat, Italeri's 1/720 Nimitz, built when I was...12? Liberal use of Sharpies and inappropriate red paint.

I wasn't proud of this 1/700 Trumpeter Modern USS Iowa BB-61 build. It is mostly out of the box with some railings and rigging. The kit lacked bulkhead details, the incorrect fighting top, wrong wooden deck pattern around teh aft 16" gun turret among many other inaccurracies. (The water turned out better than the ship, in my opinion.)

I re-built the model, full hull, with a Skywave kit and made the modifications to the fighting top, the wooden deck and added a lot of detail all around.

Undesirable Iowa:

More satisfactory results on second build:
