Porter looks good as new! Snapped this last week from the 03 Level on BB-64.

Little hard to read to stern and the numbers are blocked by the tugs but the N-P-O-R IDs her as DDG-78.

This report doesn't look like there's any panic in the Black Sea on the part of the Cook. The Cook has now departed the Black Sea.

Yeah I keep picturing Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf (Iraqi information minister during 2003 invasion, otherwise known as Baghdad Bob) every time I read Russian claims.

Propaganda is an art known not only to the Russians...I just remeber those "weapons of mass distructions" that a certain oil industry driven son of a Naval aviator used, to start a little scirmish in the desert. An not to forget our beloving "Angie" who always claims that Europe is no grave for our taxes...I could go on forever...;-)

cheers
Uwe

PS: The Porter picture is cool...those flight1 ABs look just great, not such fat a..es like the later models, more of a race horse then the rest...:-)

Hi,

My USS Monsen DDG-92 from Hobby-Boss (1/700 scale) has finally arrived.
Arleigh Burke Destroyers DDG-91 to DDG-97 has Remote Minehunting System (RMS) and the Hobby boss kit also includes the RMS equipment!
However I noticed from photos available on the Internet, that DDG-91 to DDG-97 Arleigh Burke Classe Destroyer has some differences from ship to ship.
The DDG-91 for example as only 2 domes and 2 other antennas (QE-82 for WSC-3 UHF SATCOMM) on the deck above the bridge windows.
Image

As for the DDG-94 and DDG-96, both has 4 domes antennas on the same deck above the bridge windows. As for the 2 small antennas (QE-82 for WSC-3 UHF SATCOMM) one is installed bellow the bridge windows and a above where is used to be FWD CIWS platorm, and the 2nd on the FWD funnel.

Also on DDG-94 the small deck house on top of the helicopters hangar near the AFT VLS cells, has a small white SATCOM antenna that is not installed on DDG-91.
http://www.sldinfo.com/wp-content/uploa ... 918694.jpg

Anyone knows the reason for this differences?
Will all ships (DDG-91 to DDG-96) be upgraded to the 4 domes configuration?

Thanks.
Regards,
Ayala Botto

Hi Ayala, that pic you have first is an uncompleted model of USS pickney which is why it doesn't have all the sat domes and comms gear.

Thank you both for help me clarify this issue!
I'll also update my DDG-92 to the latest standart regarding sat domes and comms gear!

I should I had used the bellow photo that represents the earlier version of the DDG-92 with only 2 Domes, rather than a photo of (unfinished) model:

Hello all

I have some questions around AB class destroyers and the 350scale Trumpeter models, please.
I have a Cole kit here...is this plastic wise the same as the Hopper kit? I would like a Hopper better since I work in IT and with Mrs Hopper being and IT icon and the creator of the "bug" word...which every IT guy knows...would simply suit me better.
Next is...we are now in 2014 and the flight 1 ABs are old and are getting modernized? Do ships like the Cole or the Hopper already have been retrofitted with this spoiler?
http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/sh ... ull-14.jpg
Also, is there a plan or maybe do they already have the newer 5" 62cal guns? What other changes do those shipes have in 2014 that the Trumpeter kit does not reflect, please? I would guess chain guns against pirates? What else, please?

thanks
Uwe

Re the earlier replies about AEGIS being jammed in the Black Sea.

I think those Russian news stories are all made up propaganda.

1.) If the radar screens went blank how on earth could the Russians know about it.
2.) By even attempting to jam the radar, the ships ESM sensors will be recording it the whole time giving the Americans vital intelligence about Russian jamming capabilities.
3.) Even if AEGIS was jammed there are other radars to use such as the FC radars and phalanx which still would have had the capability of shooting the aircraft down.
4.) The ships EMCON plan may have been in a protective state and not transmitting on its regular radar signal. From my time in the RAN it was possible you could use certain radar on a setting used for peacetime opposed to war time to not give the enemy vital information about your radar systems.
5.) The American ship may likely have wanted to shut down the AEGIS radar not to give the Russians vital information about its signal if they were flying aircraft with EW capability in close proximity.
6.) No one can resign from the Navy in a few hours.

What do others on here think?

Right on track mate. I would say that the only thing that would have tipped the Russian's hand would be Facebook. Facebook is the biggest OPSEC siv out there. If anyone was afraid, they would have put it out of Facebook, and it would have jumped around. HOWEVER, I have not seen anything like that.

I bet the whole thing is made up, Russian propaganda...

...but what if it's not?....that's a scary thought....

Extremely unlikely with the power levels SPY-1 can put out, so I agree on propaganda.

The USN could have fried the aircraft with its own jammers. I doubt Russian military leadership would want to give the USN a free sample of their jamming pod on the Su-24.

I am beginning to do research on building an Arleigh Burke destroyer (probably the USS Bainbridge) and noticed there were some questions on what the inside of the hangers looked like in these threads. I came across this Flickr page of Michael J Barritt who took lots of good pictures of the USS Halsey (DDG-97) including some hanger shots. Thought they might come in handy for those wanting to add extra details to the hanger.

So Norfolk held its annual Parade of Sail during Harbor Fest last Friday and look who was bringing up the rear manning the rails and flying a Number 1! :cool_2: The USCG RHIB was having a heck of time keeping those kayaks away from her

Image

I had just left the Wardroom to go to lunch before I had to give a tour and heard cannon salutes. Saw the tall ships coming up the channel so I went aft and spent a full 30 minutes taking photos and talking to guests and forget all about lunch

Rest of the photos including more of DDG-67 can be found here: http://s647.photobucket.com/user/Cliffy ... 206%202014

All photos shot from BB-64's fantail.

Enjoy!
