Post by Pontosmodel »

Thank you for your comments.
There are surely some wrong realizations in this set.
Almost of these come from lack of references not time.
And most of these can be fixed or added by modelers if they have better sources.
We just have designed and released these sets for those who wish to add some more details on their work with limited conditions.
This set is for scale model kit with enjoying hobby life not for Museum class detail quality.
So just hoping that you have enjoying time much more with our sets than being under stress with finding lack of details.

Adding some more photos.

This is an incredible set!! Almost wished I worked in 1/200 scale instead of 1/350. Maybe we will see Pontos take up the challenge to help with the Trumpeter Hood.

My thoughts exactly! If I built 1/200, I'd be buying this kit and this set.

Truly spectacular.

What I'd really like to see, though, is a set that would backdate the HOOD to her "as-built" or perhaps 1930s (without any of that aircraft-handling nonsense) configuration.

Hi All,
Been reading though the post here. The PONTOS set is awesome. All I need is a wooden deck for my 1/200 Hood but can't seam to get one?????. I have enough photoetch for the kit already. I really can't understand why there is not one on sale yet. No doubt there will be one eventually but it's a bummer it's not here yet. Brian...

I went to order the modified set from Sovereign Hobbies, but could not locate it on the website. Does anyone know if it sold out, or if they will be offering more?

Hi folks,

Mr Kim was kindly offering to exchange funnel frets between sets at point of order so we came up with the A,B & C notation ourselves to track customer preferences such that we could communicate the fret exchanges to Pontos Model.

We have had to drop the curtains on pre-orders now we've reached the release date in order to formalise the first order with Pontos Model, be invoiced, pay and have them sent. We withdrew the pre-order product listings (and introductory pre-order price) on Saturday just passed and Sovereign Hobbies' collective order is now paid for and in the packing queue at Pontos Model.

We have ordered a number more for shelf stock within which we've asked for the exchanged frets but what I intend to do (assuming we get those frets) is revert to just selling the standard set with the exchange fret by exception. We have modified our webstore product listings accordingly but we have them hidden at the moment until this box arrives at our address.

There has been a flurry of emails over the past 2 days from people who have missed the pre-order boat so I think the shelf stock we've ordered this time will not have time to gather much dust! Once Mr Kim has cleared the backlog from the global pre-order demand we'll order some more.

To a large extent that depends on Pontos Model and how long it takes to work through their order backlog.

When the package leaves South Korea though they usually take a few days to reach Heathrow, where they sit with customs for 2 weeks whilst someone writes us a snail-mail letter demanding import taxes be paid before the package is delivered to us. I would expect 3 to 4 weeks from despatch from South Korea :)

Sometimes packages get through UK customs faster, but I prefer to work on their longer turnaround times for expectation management purposes! :thumbs_up_1: If they get here earlier, great and we'll get them sent out ASAP whatever happens.

Excellent news - thanks for the detailed update!

With all the interest in these sets are we going to see a few builds commencing when they arrive? :)

Sovereign Hobbies, can you clarify your comment on the "fret exhanges"? Does this mean that Pontos is designing different sets depending on how people will build the funnels? i.e. they: 1) will build the two funnels out of the box with one being slightly smaller than the other, 2) they purchased an additional copy of the larger funnel so would need two larger funnel detail sets, or 3) they haven't purchased the second larger funnel but want to build it that way so may buy a custom set for that. Is that what you meant?

I have preordered this set from a company here in the US, but since you guys at Sovereign Hobbies are so helpful to provide data, I figured I would ask! Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The design of the set includes a fret sized to fit the forward funnel and one to fit the aft (this is buried much earlier in this thread). After input from some Hood experts including Frank and Evert-Jan on this thread, Kim explained that Pontos had to design the set to fit the kit, which makes sense.

In response to strong demand expressed on this thread (and maybe elsewhere - I don't know) Kim kindly agreed to exchange one size of funnel fret for a duplicate of the other on a case by case basis. This would give the customer 2 frets to suit funnels of equal size, either 2 Fwd or 2 Aft funnel frets.

Almost everyone who pre-ordered through us asked for duplicate forward funnel frets to do the most accurate correction.

When he agreed to do this (not a normal Pontos Model service!) I think (and feel free to correct me here Kim :) ) he envisaged a swings & roundabouts out turn in exchanges meaning he'd overall have the same number of parts to make up sets. I'm very aware that if any other stockists' orders look like mine then this could screw things right up for him as he'll be stuck with a load of sets pillaged for large funnel frets and left with a load of small funnel frets nobody wants. Hence I in particular am not troubling Pontos with any more requests for fret swaps until this initial order is dealt with and I can find out how the swapping works (or perhaps not, as the case may be) for Pontos...

Sovereign, thanks for the clarification. Yes, I have been following this thread for some time and was aware of the funnel debate. Hence my curiosity on your comment.

I am very much looking forward to this set. I have been so impressed with Pontos quality and eye for detail I have already ordered several other Pontos sets for other pending projects and am debating replacing some other PE sets with Pontos sets as well. I just need more time, and possibly a bit more money.

Ok, so does anybody know the release date for the detail set, it does not even come up on the pontos website....
I've just picked up my 1/200 Hood... dam this thing is big!!! I can't wait to start building her... but won't start till I get the detail kit... I don't really want to get the MK1 set, I'd rather wait... but I want to complete the building by November for our model club annual show and competition...

Oh... and as promised on another thread, I will be making a complete video diary of the build..

But!!! I need the detail set first... so please Pontos... let us know when and where we can buy this amazingly beautiful add on for this kit.
Cheers

Details of HMS Hood now on Pontos web site.

I hope that after this performance the naysayers finally will shut up and go away for good the truth is that it is getting a bit old .

And WHAT a set it is! Holy smoke...307 brass parts, 94 resin parts, 20 sheets of etch, lovely brass screws, dry transfers, and the deck!

The instructions look pretty good, as well. 9 double-sided A3 sheets (A3 is roughly 11x17") with loads of detail. I'll have to get a music stand or something.

Well done, I say. :thumbs_up_1: Mine's preordered and I can't wait to get it in my grubby little fingers.

I only hope that they also put the large funnel fret up for sale separately. I know that it's been made to fit the kit and I'm the last one to give anyone a hard time, but in my mind it would be a shame to spend all the money and time that it will take to build this kit only to end up with a too-small aft funnel. (Obtaining or casting another forward funnel is a different matter.)
