Drilling Scuttle Holes

After much research (without actually buying any books ), I decided to build the kako as furutaka since all the components have to be scratch built.

The hull has terrible molded scuttles and I plan on filling them with putty. Can anyone tell me which way is the best for drilling new ones? Thanks for all your help thus far.

The best way is to drill a pilot hole, just large enough to get a small round needle file in there, then just open the hole out with the file, intil you get a nice tight fit for the scuttle. Depending on what scale you are talking about. If it's one of these 1/700 models, then forget the file method. Just use a fine micro drill

All micro drills are measured in thousands of an inch. You will just have to search harder. You need a hobby shop that supplies micro tools.
They are expensive if you compare them to ordinary drills and they are very delicate.

I usually check Micro-Mark for such tools.

I think this drill set might be what you need. Add a pin vise and you're ready to go.

An inexpensive set of reamers may help too. I use welding tip cleaners, which come in a variety of tiny wire sizes. Great for cleaning up a drilling operation.

Hi guys,
I got a friend from my model club to machine a knife handle down so that it will fit in the chuck of a cordelss screwdriver. Better control that 5000 rpm, and we'll see how difficult it is at @600 rom to do all the scuttles on a 1/600 Repulse.
