first thing....waterline, each does paint in his own way....I like to start with the black water line
reason is ...when I ad other colors and some paint slips under the tape...it shouldn't...but it happens..corrections on the black line are easy and ...
after doing so invisible

loyal to myself....I suddely saw that the rear deck structure ....lets say isn't quite right...
where the deck drop is...heller made it say rounded...in reality...it was strait.....the heller stairs are not realy what I prefer

Re: 1/400 Admiral Scheer Heller
I'll be using partialy the 1/144 scratch build from russclark on this site for modifications (1/144 admiral sheer s.c. scratch build)
I like it a lot and as its bigger...more details than on smaller ships
for the rear I'll try do similar but...with small modifications:
stairs more at exterior and new gun platform not centered like in the aded design of nov 1944

Re: 1/400 Admiral Scheer Heller
first thing to do now...place windows, doors where heller has nothing...and correct minor problems
FYI the windows are 1mm on 1.5mm and 0.5mm thick...now letting it dry properly then I'll fine tune them

Hello Triumph68,
it's nice to see the birth of a large-scale late-war Admiral Scheer
Be careful with the drawings because most of them depicting the ship post-recosntruction are wrong
Here you can find some information in the CASF Deutschland-class thread:

I try to base myself on drawings but also on real pictures of the schip I'm building, the 2 complete nicely
at least thats what I've done with previous schip...I like modifying the kits to make it as real as possible.

Re: 1/400 Admiral Scheer Heller
As I bought the kit ...used...they had already build the funel and all search lights, guns and mast.....and fully unpainted...so
I cut off all ...and starting to do some modifications on it
seeing the pictures....I'm even thinking of cutting off the top and re-build that part....

I hope I'm not too late:
For some unkown reason Heller gives that rim below the funnel cap and makes the cap in a smaller size than the rest of funnel. The real one didn't have the rim after 1941 refit and the cap was all around flush with the funnel sides:

Re: 1/400 Admiral Scheer Heller
to big..can reduce...to small...thats something different....DavidP wrote:modify the existing funnel to get the correct shape
thinking of cutting it on the side (where its flat) and ad a strip in between
another thing that seems to be is the front rounding of the cap...I have the impression that the original cap doesn't curve from bottom to top.
on top of all....it seems that my predessor owner of the kit...put the cap upside down....good thing he didn't do much more....amateur

Re: 1/400 Admiral Scheer Heller
as some parts where poorly glued...it came pretty nicely apart...giving the advantage of being able to ad some details more easely
the brass lines are actualy 1 bar of a railing I cut off from a 3 bar railing and needing only a 2 bar railing for a German sub
my advice...what ever you cut or have left over.....can always be used some where else
gonna ad also the doors on it to get to the upper level...missing in the kit

Re: 1/400 Admiral Scheer Heller
as usual...using pictures found on web and the drawing I showed on start(second post on this topic) from nov 1944DavidP wrote:redo the cap as the backside is straight vertical & the front is not slightly curved but a straight angle from bottom front to top front of cap. open that gap at the front of cap so that the gap is same width from bottom to top & fill with a strip of plastic. what drawing(s) are you using as I have a 1944 drawing of the Scheer?
