Anchorage diorama

I am planning to built kgv 1/350 scale with an anchorage diorama.

My problem is how to cover any gaps between the hull and the surface. Up to now I used to cover the gaps with cotton, but this was for ships under way. In the anchorage that I am planning this may not look so realistic.

Any tips ?

Use a needle or a piece of wire for distributing the gel around the hull. You can find such products at other manufacturers, e.g. Vallejo, too.

Cheaper alternatives that may be easier to procure include the acrylic gel mediums used by artists, available at regular art supply stores.

Yes acrylic gel from artist supply houses is the way to go.

I also stipple it onto water surfaces with a bristle brush to simulate the effect of gusts.

And I mix it with ordinary crystal sugar to sculpt breaking waves. Cheap and effective.

Use the acrylic medium as already suggested keeping your gap around the hull as small as possible; filling and blending in with the sea color..Mask off the model at the w.l. with blue masking tape to guard against splash..

Use some rough surfaced watercolour paper glued to the base to give a bit of underlying texture. Fix the model to it. Paint the paper in your chosen colour. Then put the gel medium down and stipple or twitch it with a brush. Putting the transparent gel on top of the paint will give a sense of depth to the water surface.
