It was really difficult to position and place foil proper and without any wrinkles

It was hard to get it out from paper carrier. Since foil has a glue - it glues to everything - also to the fingers. Best sticks to fingers actually ...

Wow Blacman your WASHINGTON is looking really sweet, I'm loving the hull plating. It really stands out and will look really defined once it is painted and weathered. Keep up the great work, I'm watching this one closely.

Superstructure...
It supposed to be easy, quick & nice ... What I realized already is that quick & easy won't be for sure. Trumpeter made some simplifications and misplacements here:

On admiral deck when use Trumpeter proposition to add plastic walls superstructure is over sized - blue line



On signal deck differences are even more significant. While BB55 could be somehow OK - for BB56 is far different:

and in both sisters location of MK 51 Director is wrong.


Navigation deck has wrong external shape. Also walls are wrong. Trumpeter done it sharp while they were rounded...




The higher the worse:



So - all levels above navigation deck will be redesigned and made from scratch - as PE parts.

Aft. Superstructure also needs to be redesigned and redone - Bofors stations are wrong and misplaced:



Any remarks are more than welcome....

I cannot find any good reference for plating pattern on the chains plate. Only clear picture of Washington I have access shows:

question is: what was the proper pattern during WWII on USS Washington and NC..? Anyone can help?

I really don't know Greg but from the b&w picture the anti-skid plate pattern looks pretty close to that of the NC, look closely to left of the red box i think the pattern can be seen a little more clear there.

I think this image is probably the pattern of the diamond tread skid plates used during WWII. This is the Missouri, I know a later class of ship but it seams to align with the faint pattern posted above of the North Carolina. I think what's aboard now a days is a more common and modern alternating pattern in a cross hatch pattern vs this pattern of offset diamonds.

I can confirm BB-64 has the modern "cross hatching" pattern. Curious they'd replace that. Was the older pattern deemed not as effective or something?

Maybe it was just cheaper to get sheet metal with the "modern" crosshatch diamond pattern, even at the thickness needed for battleship anchor chain support.

laser cut deck ready:









width of planking 0,30mm, making thiner is impossible. it is going to be nice fun with painting... I'm just trying to figure out how to make blue deck a bit worn; But have not any idea how the blue paint was behaving on wooden deck over time ... Was is like chipping or rather rubbing away...

I designed also the part of deck equipment - winches are ready: They are 3D printed:








electric engine looks quite Ok but I need to redesign wheels - a bit bigger and add some inferior details...

Superb work so far, love the "oil canning" effect and I've gotta try it myself eventually. Gotta say I draw the line at details I can't see without a magnifying device but it sure is fascinating to watch other folks do them... and do them well. Keep it up!

You are not the only one.

Since this is another ship I will be doing in 1/700 as well (2nd Naval Battle of Guadalcanal - I only have a few DDs for both sides and the Japanese CLs - one of which I am working on now). I am planning to get the Washington and South Dakota this December-ish.

If you make a PE set for this kit, it will again save me a lot of trouble.

I'm planing to design comprehensive set with PE, laser cuts decks and some 3D prints since some parts cannot be made from PE. Like stern bollards (I guess this is right name...)
