Weathering Submarines

I'm at the point with my Seawolf that it's time for weathering. What are the different methods of weathering (I'm using Tamiya acrylics) and what are the correct colors to use? I've heard there are many different weathering techniques, airbrush, washes, drybrushing, etc. but I haven't a clue where to begin. Thanks in advance for any advice/direction.

I have alot of great photo's of several finished Type VII U-Boats.They are a good reference for weathering.I can e-mail them to you..Joe

Not long ago a fellow modeler (sorry, � can�t remember his name) posted some pictures of a submarine very nicely weathered. He said he painted it a very dark grey and then drybrushed (or washed?) black. Shame I do not have the time to search for it right now, but if you do, it was a very nice weathering he got.
