Mr Kim. I'm almost finished my Bismarck, most of the advanced kit therefore is too late for me to use. However I would love to get a set of the aircraft carriages. Any chance of these being sold separately like WEM and Eduards sell smaller area sets?

I stopped holding my breath a long time ago. Pontos is obviously busy making new stuff. Why waste time and money on us suckers that already paid for the product? Month after month they keep postponing. Those of us that already have the kit and have been sitting on our hands are being treated unfairly. We were expected to buy something that not only was incomplete, but it was full of errors. We waited patiently for them to correct the errors and now we are expected to wait even longer for upgrades to be available. We are expected to wait MONTHS from when we purchased the kit and the PE set before we can truly get into it. It really sucks. Their new stuff might look good, but so did the Bismarck set, and it cost over $200.00.
Their M.O. seems to be: Post some really cool pictures of something they are working on. Get the masses licking their chops. Post more cool pictures. Release the set with errors and incomplete. Watch the cash roll in. Move on to the next PE set. Watch the complaints come in and make lots of promises on the incredible update being worked on. Post more cool pics to prove that. Ask people to wait and wait and wait....keep working on new stuff.
Just take a look at what's going on in the 1/200 Missouri Pontos set postings. Same as here.

To be fair to them, they have taken a massive amount of work on in terms of producing fully detailed brass etch kits for just about every major scale and popular ship going.

As a modeller, I think it's good that we have Pontos out there producing this stuff at a sensible price. You are always going to get mistakes along the way, but they just need to take things at more of a measured and achievable pace setting realistic release dates with good Quality Control and forget about world domination overnight and then I think they'll get there.

You can't fault them for ambition. :thumbs_up_1:

its our fault how many people have asked for extra stuff to be added which delays the release have you heard of any other manufacturer doing this NO and pontos are still the best sets I've ever had so I know their release dates are wrong but bet we all forgive them when we see it finally done

I totally agree with you. What they get right, they get RIGHT. The quality and quantity in their kits is very impressive, but you can't turn your back on your customers once they paid for your product, and worst of all, it's due to the fact that they are working on newer things that will likely suffer the same problems. I for one would rather pay a little more and get something "completed" than save money for something that's going to take months (if ever) to get completed. And let's not forget the documentation......

I would not mind buying the Basic kit (23001F1).
Mr Kim do you know who sells it?
In every store I know is not available.
If I can not find it, I'll buy the MK1.

Pontos,

While your PE kit IS very impressive, and makes a difference on the 1/200 Bismarck, I have some concerns about the parts, manual, and the complications it is causing us.

There are parts in the kit that have NO explanation of where they go and no pictures of how to fit them. The bending of the brass is delicate work, and not having accurate guidelines is frustrating. And it causes the parts to be useless if messed up!

Where and how do these parts fit on the build...........?

J3/J4Resin Parts (and I see there are two different J3s, but I am referring to the part that goes around the anchor). You show the part, but no other explanation.

Also, where do 81 and 82 go? There is NO picture or mention of them anywhere I can find, other than on the 2nd page where they are seen, and they are included in the PE parts.

I also see a picture (page 12 and other pages as well) of a very large anchor at the stern of the ship that is directly in the middle; however, the Bismarcks is on the side. Is this picture representing the Trumpeter kit, and if so, why the difference?

There are very little guidelines on how to fold the pieces and place them, as on page 11, Boat L30, pieces 768, 802, 803. And what are the slots for on 768?

Please redo manual and show accurate pictures and placement, as it is helpful to see HOW the pieces bend, where they go, and what they should look like on the build.

Thanks so very much,

Navyveteran

Advanced Set

Post by Pontosmodel »

Just survived from the Hell of Kongo Project and back to 1/200 Bismarck and Missouri Advanced sets.
I am very sorry every time for eveery delaying.
These delaying have some reasons.
The first is I as an owner of small company should concirn quite new projects asked from customers and dealers. It is also fact that Our 1/200 Bismarck, 1/200 Missouri and yep 1/350 Yamato customers also the best dear customers. And so I don't give up these advanced sets. And it is also fact that these advanced sets also give us much profit too when these are released. But there have been other new projects without releasing at the appropriate time, we take many and much larger risks in surviving at this market.
So please understand our complex situation for surviving at this business as a preowner of Bismarck /Mssouri and Yamato basic sets.

The second reason is my own stick(sometime obsession) to the better sets via Advanced set.
If released with the innitial depic and plan, we could do with more easier and faster way.
But with researching more there have been more askings from you and me.
For example, comparing with real photos or references Trumpeter kit has too many critical errors in the structure wall decorations as you know.

So now I am serious thinking about to wipe almost the structure walls and add almost details as Windows ,doors and vents etc.

Follwoing photos are current designing 1/350 Bismarck for 1/350 Revell kit.

With this concept, it may take extra some weeks more to release.

Anyway I am back to Advanced set again.

And more I am sorry not to reply all your posts now but I will try to reply for your question, request or advice soon.

Thank you

I have a suggestion for Pontos:
How about you do ALL the heavy research BEFORE you release your product? How about you take a good look at the kit such as the Trumpeter 1/200 Bismark and find all errors BEFORE you release your product? I think releasing new projects because customers and dealers are asking for them BEFORE you finish working on a released PE set is a big error. All the time that you put into a new project can be put into fixing products that customers have already paid for. If you do that, you will FINISH the released product much faster, and THEN you can start on a new project. What you are doing is only making more people unhappy. To have several unfinished projects out there is only going to increase the amount of customers that will be awaiting updates. For us who already have sets to have to wait MONTHS for upgrades is awful. I bought the Bismarck (>$200) and the Pontos set (>$200) and have not been able to enjoy it because of your delays. If I had known this was going to be the case I would have spent all that money on something else or would still have it in the bank. You have to look at it like that rather than trying to make everyone happy when they ask for something new.
Please rethink your process. You make a beautiful product, but you need to manage how you deliver it properly.
