Why oh why are they still issuing instruction sheets on line for download and printed with the kits knowing that they are wrong?????
I certainly agree to that! Makes no sense at all and only takes 5 minutes to do!

Love the Oscar accessories idea :thumbs_up_1:
Several Oscar options would be nice:
- sitting
- prowling/running
- "I'm on top of the world!" (*gag*)
Not like he'll take up a lot of photo etch real estate, plus he's a cool "where's Oscar?" easter egg

alang wrote:I agree with all the comments that Pontos sets are superb....... but what l cannot get my head around is the fact that several of us on here have actually rewritten the instruction sheets for them, correcting all the mistakes and going to the extent of adding many more part numbers and more guidance for the modeler, then sent copy to them for their use if they so desire but they totally ignore this act. So in effect by their lack of comments on this site they are in effect saying 'yes we know our instructions are wrong and lacking in details but will not act on this' - which contradicts what they keep saying about helping the modeler.
Why oh why are they still issuing instruction sheets on line for download and printed with the kits knowing that they are wrong?????
Sorry but that l just cannot understand.

Whilst I agree with both sides of the story ie the mistakes that have been recognised and the issue's around the instructions being identified plus Mr Kims recognition of the mistakes which is to be commendable form a producer ..... as a solution how about a sticky thread being made that highlights all the issues with the pontos set listing the changes or corrections to be made surely those of you who have started this set have a list of what needs to be corrected which inturn will help those of us looking to take on a build..... just food for thought

Re sticky thread for corrections...............there are so many corrections/omissions that it would put anybody off just by looking at the list that would have to be made.
I have available seven of the files as issued by Pontos but as corrected and updated instruction sheets and if anybody is interested just drop me a pm with your e-mail address but be warned they are large files. These files look exactly the same as the Pontos download ones but with all the corrections made (showing where they are corrected) and also with many more part numbers shown that were missing.

I hope you got someone outside of your company to check the instructions, Kim. That way they will not be worried about telling you all of the mistakes that an employee may be too intimidated to provide.

Yep I agree that we had not checked fully on last Bismarck chased by releasing date.
And this made us have paid some extra costs in many aspects.
So at new Missouri set, we try to spend some more times to check by all our staffs.

Many people have contacted me for copy of the corrected instruction sheets for this Pontos set (So many! - and Pontos you just don't realise how much damage you are doing by not issuing corrected instruction sheets) and many thanks for all the grateful notes that have in turn been sent to me.

However to make things much simpler one of our fellow modelers on this site (Antanas) has very kindly made a zip file available from his server which contains all the corrected sheets together with a few extra notes re misnumbering on the actual etched sheets.
This zip file contains corrected sheets for pages 1,2,4,5,6,7,and 8. Leaving just page 3 to obtain from the Pontos site as this was not to bad. The Pontos correction sheets are then not needed.
These sheets are the same to look at as the Pontos ones but show all the corrrections (also showing where they are corrected) and numerous extra part numbers many of which are not shown on the original Pontos sheets.
To obtain these files use this link:- http://www.modelizmas.lt/files/Alans_23001f1.zip

Hope this helps all you others out there struggling with this otherwise superb kit but thanks again to Antanas for providing this service.

Regards Alan

I would have rather PM'ed my thanks, but not allowed (not enough posts, I guess). I want to give those my appreciation for taking their time unselfishly to give us this information. Thanks so much.

Happy modeling,
Len

About 3 months ago Mr. Kim :

"Yep don't worry Our Basic set owners!
Current plan is
21001F1 "Advanced Plus Set"
27001F1 "Advanced Set"

23001F1 "Basic set" (will be discontinued)
22001F1 "Basic set (no woodendeck) (will be discontinued)

23001F1 owner can buy just 21001F1 for Full Advanced set.
So 27001F1 = 23001F1+21001F1

And just after 21001F1 released, we will discontinue to supply 23001F1 and 22001F1

27001F1 will be cost much more than (23001F1+21001F1)

So 23001F1 owners will have some more profit in the payment budget though paid shipping cost two times."

WHAT'S THE STATUS ON THIS? HAS IT BEEN SCRAPPED?

My thanks to Alang and Antanas for the work you have done on making us aware of the corrections necessary to the Pontos set instruction sheets.

I am in the process of completing a working model of a coastal chemical tanker and the Bismarck is the next on the slipway, your work has given me the confidence to get started on it.

Many thanks, Chris

Can I second that please. What a wonderful gesture Alan, I downloaded the correction pages last night and I must say that the quality of them is first class. You have gone to a tremendous amount of trouble to churn these out and you have saved me and doubtless many others, a colossal amount of abortive time and head scratching. I am immensely grateful to you. Thank you very much indeed!

Come on Kim, you have the best 1/200 set for the Bismarck on the market but you are letting yourself and Ponto's down by including instructions with your work that are not up to scratch. This board has been with you practically all the way through the development of this set so why not benefit by the work they have done on your behalf to improve your offering!?!

Thank you also for sending the correction set to me which was gratefully received and appreciated. :thumbs_up_1:

Very glad I have found such a great place for ship building!

good work guys on helping to get the instructions right, but still what the heck?
I have the IOWA class set in 1/350 and the instructions are as bad as the one on the Bismarck, but come on guys, we are model makers, I think that all of us have some logic and some brain to spot the mistakes and correct them, it's not really that hard, if you are a newbie that can't do it, and bought a 150USD advance PE set, well that's kinda your problem.

I agree that Pontos should work on their instructions, I've said that back in the days when I first get my IOWA set. But they give nice "zoomable" pdf on their site, high resolution photos of the WIP, photos of the built model with the set, they have a lot of PE and brass and resin of content for a fair price.. so what?!?

They will get better for sure. I hope people who said that they will try to buy other PE set because Pontos isn't good, are joking...what better solution can you find? I would get the Pontos with "bed instructions" 100 times more than a WEM, Eduard or GMM set (sorry guys but it's true)...
